WHAT IS Suprax/Cefixime?

CEFIXIME/Suprax is an antibiotic. It is used to treat infections of the ears, lungs, pelvis, throat, and urinary tract. It will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections. This medicine may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions.

WHERE SHOULD I KEEP Suprax/Cefixime?

After this medicine is mixed by your pharmacist, store it in a refrigerator or at room temperature. Do not freeze. Keep tightly closed. Throw away any unused medicine after 14 days.

Keep out of the reach of children.

HOW SHOULD I USE Suprax/Cefixime?

Take this medicine by mouth. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Shake well before using. Use a specially marked spoon or container to measure your medicine. Household spoons are not accurate. You can take it with or without food. If it upsets your stomach, take it with food. Take your medicine at regular intervals. Do not take it more often than directed. Take all of your medicine as directed even if you think your are better. Do not skip doses or stop your medicine early.

Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. While this drug may be prescribed for children as young as 6 months old for selected conditions, precautions do apply.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.

Note: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.

WHAT IF I MISS A DOSE?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

WHAT ARE Suprax/Cefixime TABLETS?

CEFIXIME/Suprax (SupraxÂ®) is a cephalosporin antibiotic. It treats many kinds of infections, including those of the respiratory tract, sinuses, ears, and urinary tract. Cefixime/Suprax also treats some sexually transmitted disease. Generic cefixime/Suprax tablets are not yet available.

WHAT SHOULD I WATCH FOR WHILE USING Suprax/Cefixime?

Tell your doctor or health care professional if your symptoms do not improve or if you get new symptoms. Your doctor will monitor your condition and blood work as needed.

Do not treat diarrhea with over the counter products. Contact your doctor if you have diarrhea that lasts more than 2 days or if it is severe and watery.

This medicine can interfere with some urine glucose and some urine ketone tests. If you use such tests, talk with your health care professional.

WHAT SIDE EFFECTS MAY I NOTICE FROM TAKING Suprax/Cefixime?

Side effects that you should report to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible: â€¢Â difficulty breathing, wheezing â€¢Â dizziness â€¢Â fever or chills, sore throat â€¢Â pain or difficulty passing urine â€¢Â redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth â€¢Â seizures (convulsions) â€¢Â severe or watery diarrhea â€¢Â skin rash, itching â€¢Â stomach pain or cramps â€¢Â swollen joints â€¢Â unusual bleeding or bruising â€¢Â unusual weakness or tiredness Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome): â€¢Â diarrhea â€¢Â gas or heartburn â€¢Â genital and anal irritation â€¢Â headache â€¢Â loss of appetite â€¢Â nausea, vomiting Let your prescriber or health care professional know about these side effects, if they do not go away or if they annoy you.

WHAT DRUG(S) MAY INTERACT WITH Suprax/Cefixime?

â€¢Â aspirin and aspirin-like medicines â€¢Â probenecid/Probalan Tell your prescriber or health care professional about all other medicines you are taking, including non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements, or herbal products. Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the way your medicine works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.

WHAT MAY INTERACT WITH Suprax/Cefixime?

aspirin and aspirin-like medicines carbamazepine medicines that treat or prevent blood clots like warfarin

They need to know if you have any of these conditions: â€¢Â bleeding problems â€¢Â diarrhea â€¢Â kidney disease â€¢Â stomach or intestinal problems (especially colitis) â€¢Â other chronic illness â€¢Â an unusual or allergic reaction to cefixime/Suprax , other cephalosporin antibiotics, penicillin, penicillamine, other foods, dyes or preservatives â€¢Â pregnant or trying to get pregnant â€¢Â breast-feeding

WHAT IF I MISS A DOSE?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses. There should be an interval of at least 10 to 12 hours between doses.

WHAT SHOULD I WATCH FOR WHILE TAKING Suprax/Cefixime?

Tell your prescriber or health care professional if your symptoms do not begin to improve in a few days. If you are diabetic you may get a false-positive result for sugar in your urine. Check with your prescriber or health care professional before you change your diet or the dose of your diabetic medicine. If you get severe or watery diarrhea, do not treat yourself. Call your prescriber or health care professional for advice. If you are being treated for a sexually transmitted disease, avoid sexual contact until you have finished your treatment. Having sex can infect your sexual partner.

Finish the full course prescribed by your prescriber or health care professional even if you think your condition is better. Do not stop taking except on your prescriber's advice. Contact your pediatrician or health care professional regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.

WHERE CAN I KEEP MY MEDICINE?
